Pregnancy Resource Center

The Pregnancy Resource Center is Blount County’s Crisis Pregnancy Center. PRC was established in 1986 and has always been supported entirely through the contributions of local churches, individuals and businesses. PRC is a pro-life organization ministering to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those facing difficult decisions regarding pregnancy, while communicating God’s plan for sexual purity by teaching life affirming choices for a healthy and fulfilled life. The ministry has three employees (two of which are part-time), 15 trained volunteers, and a Board of Directors. Services offered are free pregnancy tests, education on options, adoption referrals, counseling through the crisis, parenting classes, post abortion counseling and the New Hope Clothes Closet. (Donated maternity and baby clothes up to age 2 years) New moms receive layettes.

Our church has long been a monetary supporter of the PRC. In addition there are currently three of our church members who are regular weekly volunteers. Another member serves on the Board of Directors. Others have given volunteer community service. Many of our members have attended the annual fundraiser banquet.

PRC is pleased with the recent success of their Parenting Classes, which were begun in 2004 after the move to a new, larger facility. The class averages 6 clients each session. The purpose of these classes is to reach the growing population of young, single mothers who often come from a background that lacked good parenting examples. PRC had long recognized the need for this type of training due to the increasing number of clients who decide to parent after experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.

A recent donation of the funds for purchase of a laptop computer with projector will enable the PRC to do presentations using power point in the future. PRC’s Assistant Director is currently designing the presentation. She is also a student at Pellissippi State working on becoming a Web Master.
